COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS
From Summer 2024 and continuing through Spring 2025, Parklab and Mission Bay Development Group hosted a series of community meetings, workshops, and site tours to help shape the future of Mission Bay Parks.
WORKSHOP 1 + SITE TOURS - The first workshops took place in June and July 2024. Attendees gathered at the Mission Bay Commons sites and walked west through the interim uses, touring the future park parcels from end to end. The group then reconvened at the center of the Commons to discuss, analyze, and share ideas for the permanent open spaces planned along the Commons parcels and beneath the I-280 freeway.
COMMUNITY SURVEY - An online survey followed in August and September, gathering input from more than 1,100 community members on their priorities and hopes for the future of Mission Bay Parks.
WORKSHOP 2 + SURVEY FINDINGS - In October 2024, the community reconvened at Spark for a second workshop, where participants reviewed and discussed the results of the online survey and helped identify priorities based on the data collected.
WORKSHOP 3 + VISIONING - In April 2025, park planners presented a series of targeted improvement strategies along with preliminary site plan concepts for the Mission Bay Commons and the future active recreation parks (Parcels P7 and P9). This workshop marked the conclusion of the initial planning phase.
NEXT UP - The upcoming design phase will refine these ideas and site plans into detailed designs. Additional community check-ins are planned to ensure continued public collaboration as the vision for the remaining Mission Bay Parks takes shape.

Even if you couldn’t make it to the workshop, you’re welcome to drop by anytime. Our pilot Parklab site is in the heart of San Francisco’s dynamic Mission Bay neighborhood. The Parklab sites are a laboratory to experiment with all kinds of open spaces, so there’s always plenty of outdoor fun to choose from: Pack your own picnic, or try a delicious boxed lunch from Spark Social and Spark Gardens across the street, play a round of golf at Stagecoach Greens, try a game of pick-up soccer or reserve a field for your team, pull up to the Parklab Fitness Court, or even join a gardening workshop at Urban Sprouts!
